Through the months of August, September and October the girls have worked hard, looked for guidance, not only from the coach, but from their teammates as well, asked important questions, had fun and kept their heads up. Although our season was not the most uplifting in terms of records (0-17-1), the girls tried their best to think positively, gave it their all and started fresh with every new game. Our captains were chosen every game based on the previous game and or practice. This gave the girls an opportunity to understand what it takes to be a leader, a strong positive role model, and to communicate with their teammates. Those who took on that roll and displayed these aspects were chosen, but also gave those who were working toward this a chance to see what it truly takes to be a captain.
Our freshman who joined the varsity team this year really pulled it together and improved themselves in more than one way. Starting on a varsity level can be a big step for some, but they took on that roll with positive attitudes, worked hard, questioned their understandings of certain skills and drills and most importantly, showed their potential out on the field.
I would like to recognize our seniors who unfortunately will be departing from Colton-Pierrepont in June, but fortunately will be out in the real world hopefully working hard and living their dreams. Their leadership, role modeling and various strengths have been a wonderful asset to our 2008 season. Next year, our sophomores will be stepping up and becoming our front line, guiding the team and displaying their helpful knowledge, skills and support to the “new team”.
We should also acknowledge two of our players who really put forth more than 100% at all times, displayed unbeatable positive attitudes, naturally took on leadership roles, and demonstrated their passion for the game and their willingness to be a team player every step of the way! These players are Taylor Bonno, who received 2nd team All Northern, and Brooke Baker who received 2nd team All Northern and an award for sportsmanship. Congratulations ladies!
Lastly, I would like to emphasize my appreciation to these girls for working as hard as they do and making my first year wonderful. They made things quirky, fun, unique, interesting and lovely. Their different personalities and ability of being so fun and unique has made me laugh (very hard) or in some cases just shake my head because of their conversations, singing, jokes, etc. The season was wonderful and I learned many things that I will now use and build on for next season. Looking forward to season 2009!
